Locked Out! What Now?

It happens that you forget your keys from time to time. In your car. Now what? If your spouse is on a business trip, and they needed to take their car keys with them, so they’d have them when they got back for the other vehicle, and you don’t have anyone else to call.

Remain Calm

Be sure to store our dispatch number in your phone in case of emergency (224) 633-1185. Keep calm and let us know if you have accidentally locked your keys in your car, and you don’t have access to another set at the time. Be sure to let us know if your car is running as well, this may require us to be prepared to give you a jump start once we get into your vehicle.

Here are a few things you need to let us know:

  • Location of the vehicle
  • Make, model and color
  • If there is a baby or pet locked inside
  • Whether or not the vehicle is running or not

Emergency Situation

You should immediately call 911 if you accidentally left your keys in your car with your baby or a young child, especially if it is hot outside. Cars can get very hot, even when it’s nice outside and the sun is out. Chicagoland is known for its frigid winters, so the same applies to the colder months as well.
If you accidentally locked your keys out of the car and you were supposed to be transporting a dependent adult and they are currently in the car, please call 911, unless you can get them to help you unlock the car.

Safety Features

With most cars now, you can’t lock the keyfob in the vehicle due to safety features, but with those with remote start options, this happens frequently. A keyless entry system is found on many newer vehicles, which allows you to enter the vehicle without actually inserting a key. Simply having the key fob in your pocket or purse and being in close proximity is all it takes for the door to open. By sending a radio frequency or RF signal, it will inform the vehicle that it matches. A battery replacement is usually required when it doesn’t work.

Although it isn’t easy to be done, it does happen and it could happen to anyone. Be sure to call Speedy G Towing at (224) 633-1185 and we’ll be glad to help you out if you ever find yourself in this situation.
